Slide School Meals

Dinner money is currently £13.40 week (£2.68 a day).  It should be sent into school in an envelope with your child’s name on it on Monday morning.   It can also be paid on the internet via the Tameside MBC website.

Children choose their main course from a menu which operates on a three week rolling programme and is changed twice a year – usually in April and October.

Free School Meals

Free School Meals can be claimed by Parents or Guardians of pupil’s who are on a low income and claim certain benefits.  All claims will be processed by the Benefits Section at Tameside Council with the target date of 3 days.

How do I apply for Free School Meals?

  • Any new e-claims for Universal Credit, Housing and Council Tax Benefit will now also include the option to apply for Free School Meals.
  • Telephone the Council’s call centre on 0161 342 8355
  • For more information and to apply simply visit www.tameside.gov.uk/schoolmeals
  • In person at one of the Council’s Customer Service Offices. See the website for the appointment services or for the drop in service at Ashton. You should bring your latest Benefit award notice of your qualifying benefit with you.

In addition to the options for applying given above, school have bought in to an on-line checking system which makes the whole process much easier as school can check on your behalf.  Parents need to complete this form  and return to school where it can be checked on the confidential site which is directly linked to the Department of Work and Pensions.  By completing the form, please be assured that school DOES NOT gain access to any of your personal records or financial details.  We are simply given an answer “eligible” or “not eligible” for statutory free school meals and it removes the need for applications to be sent to the local authority as they have done in the past.

Even if your child does not wish to have school meals, we would still appreciate you completing the form as eligibility means the school is entitled to claim Pupil Premium for your child.  This is approximately £1000 per year for each child which is used to support the education of all pupils by funding vital intervention work to help pupils achieve their full potential.  If you have any questions about this scheme, please ask at the school office.

Universal Free School Meals

All children from Reception to Year 2 are entitled to a free school meal under the government’s scheme.  However, if you are in receipt of any of the above allowances making you eligible for free school meals anyway, it is important that you also claim via this route (see above).  Children who are entitled to free school meals (other than through Universal Free School Meals) generate additional funding for school (Pupil Premium).  If you have any queries or require assistance in applying, please contact the school office.

Menu

The menu shown below is on a three week rolling programme and is changed twice a year – usually in April and October.  Children choose their main course.  KS2 children choose their own meals (usually done in class) but blank menus are sent home for parents to complete for Early Years and KS1.

If your child wishes to change their choices, please contact the school office for a new ‘tick sheet’ menu.
